NFSMW: Blacklist Tournament Interview with Nick Taylor |
Saturday, 17.09.2005 |
An interview with Nick Taylor, host of the Blacklist Tournament events and also author of the Recaps, can be found at the official NFSMW website. Among other things, he talks about his areas of responsibility:
Jon Long: You've done a great job with the event making contestants both laugh and cry and have even made "I can't wait to send you home" the latest catchphrase. . Where did you come up with such a line?
Nick Taylor: This phrase started in Houston, Texas and was first used on one of the eliminated contestants. He kept saying "I can't believe you guys kicked me out the tournament" and so I kept telling him, "I can't believe you haven't gone home yet." It's an easy phrase that rolls off the tongue well so I decided to keep using it.
Jon Long: Many may not also know that you're the man responsible for the awesome recaps that get posted on the NFSMW official site? How does it feel to not only be the host of the Blacklist Tournament, but also the on-the-spot reporter as well?
Nick Taylor: The reason I enjoy writing the recaps is because it makes me feel like I am still in the middle of the event. This also makes my services more marketable because it also shows that I can do more than crack jokes on a microphone.

NFSMW: New Hands-On |
Friday, 16.09.2005 |
The onlinemagazine Gamespot was on the TGS in Tokyo and tested Need for Speed Most Wanted. There is not much new, but the Lexus IS 300 has been confirmed and I entered it in our carlist.
While the demo version of the game being shown is set up to deliver two race types in preconfigured vehicles, some portions of the game's menus are available, including a "my garage" section that lets you build out custom versions of the game's vehicles by tweaking their engines and messing around with other parts. The game contains a Ford Mustang GT, a BMW M3, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and a Lexus IS 300, though, of course, the final version of the game will have several more cars to choose from.
The game's car models look pretty sharp, and as you bang them around, the windows will crack out, but that appears to be it for car damage. Graphically, the rest of the game has a decent visual look to it, though at times, the frame rate noticeably dropped. Additionally, the game's current running speed isn't completely smooth, and the game doesn't really seem to deliver a terribly convincing sense of speed.
Though the game's soundtrack hasn't been officially announced, tracks from Juvenile, The Prodigy, and Styles of Beyond popped up as we raced.

NFSMW: Russian Preview |
Friday, 16.09.2005 |
The russian website Overclockers.ru wrote a preview of Need for Speed Most Wanted - unfortunately in Russian. But it's quite interesting, because for example the system requirements for the PC version are written there:
* Pentium IV 1.5 GHz
* 256 MB RAM
* 2.5 GB free disk space
* 128 MB graphics card, compatible with DirectX 9.0c
Additionally the following cars/labels should be available in the game:
Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Murcielago, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Aston Martin, Peugeot, Ferrari, Maserati, Chevrolet, Ford
How much you can trust this preview - we don't know. The system requirements seem to be very common and the cars also could be guessed...there is no acknowledgement from EA yet. If there is something new we'll inform you as soon as possible

NFSMW: New Information |
Friday, 16.09.2005 |
In the discussion boards of our affiliate NFS Unlimited came some new information about Need for Speed Most Wanted up:
Since you liked the sounds in UG2, here's some sound tips on MW:
- You'll have almost double the amount of Car sounds compared to UG2
- In UG2 we had 50+ variations of turbo sounds and 1 supercharger, now each type of supercharger is modelled to how it sounds in real life.
- We upped the amount of crash-sounds from 110 to over 500 since you hit tons and tons of objects and cars
- There's over 12000 lines of cop dialog, modelled after real conversations from cops to base-station, inbetween cops etc. Several people have spend 2 years on getting this aspect to be as good as possible. We casted from over 350 actors to make sure we got people that sounded good and real. A complete new A.I. cop speech system was written from the ground up.
- Paul Linford who was part of the scoring team for Gone in 60 seconds, Bad Boys 2 etc. scored this game. Over 45 minutes of pursuit-pounding music which adapt to your every move. Some people on the team say that playing without sound is now not even an option anymore :)

Our affiliate NFS Streetdogs released two new videos of the demoversion of Need for Speed Most Wanted. The first one shows the pursuit of a Mazda RX-8 and the second one a movie of the Porsche Cayman S, which wasn't in a video before. Unfortunately the videos are a little big with 56 and 40 MB.
